After academic positions in Heidelberg, Basel, and Lyon, Prof. Dr. Anne Brüske has been affiliated with the University of Regensburg since the winter semester 2020/21, initially as Acting Professor for "Spatial Dimensions of Cultural Processes," and since October 2022 as the chairholder of this professorship. Her research and teaching are situated at the intersections of literary studies, cultural studies, and sociology, with a particular focus on areas of transculturation.
Central to her work are conceptions of space as a sociocultural construct, global dynamics of cultural exchange, and media—particularly fictional texts and multimodal narratives—as both reflections and drivers of social change. Her regional focus is on inter-American and transatlantic entanglements, especially concerning the plurilingual, (post)colonially shaped cultures of the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Francophone world. She has a particular interest in both narrative fictional and non-fictional literature, as well as graphic narratives.
Thematically, her research addresses cultural expressions of diaspora and migration; questions of identity, memory, and belonging in transnational and postcolonial contexts; intersectional perspectives on social inequality; and anthropological frameworks in literature and media within the contexts of coloniality, social transformation, and ecological crises.
Currently, she is engaged in projects examining cultural entanglements between Latin America—especially Cuba—and Eastern Europe in the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as eco-critical and post-apocalyptic graphic narratives from the Caribbean and Latin America.
Furthermore, she serves on the board of directors of the Leibniz ScienceCampus “Europe and America in the Modern World” and is actively involved in expanding international collaborations with universities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Research Profile
As a researcher in cultural studies, I focus on the cultures and media of Europe and the Americas. I have developed an interdisciplinary approach that explores the disciplinary borderlands and boundaries of cultural studies, sociology and area studies. My focus lies in particular in spatial theories, transculturality and regional/global developments. I have particular regional expertise relating to the cultures and media (primarily texts) emerging from the Caribbean region and its North American Diasporas today, and to Enlightenment-era and contemporary France.
I am particularly interested in questions relating to social spaces, cultural exchanges and global entanglements in the context of postcolonial, economic and social power relations. My work also examines forms of cultural expression taking place as part of migration and processes of social change. In my research I explore (post)colonial and diasporic texts and cultures of the Americas both from a transcultural perspective and in terms of their regional and glocal relations.
