With approximately 20,000 students, the University of Regensburg is an innovative and interdisciplinary campus university with diverse research activities and a broad range of study programs for young people from Germany and abroad. The Department for Interdisciplinary and Multiscalar Area Studies (DIMAS) aims to consolidate, expand, and further develop the methodologies of Area Studies in research and teaching. Founded in 2021, it consists of six permanent professorships as well as members from participating faculties, researchers and administrative staff. Starting at the next possible date, we are looking for a

Postdoctoral Researcher

for a full-time contract of 40 h/week in a temporary position for 3 years – with the possibility of extension for 2 further years. Remuneration will be based on the standard hourly rate for TV-L E13.

Your Tasks:

• Independent research in the field of Interdisciplinary and Multiscalar Area Studies (aligned with the scholarly interests of the DIMAS professorships) with the goal of obtaining a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements

• Independent and collaborative publication activities, e.g. with other DIMAS members, and presentation of research results at relevant national and international conferences with the aim of strengthening DIMAS's international research profile and increasing its visibility

• Proactive participation in the acquisition of third-party funded projects and in the coordination of the research activities of the DIMAS professorships

• Conception and teaching of courses, including student supervision, totaling 5 credit hours per week

 

Your Profile:

  • Completed university degree and a doctorate in a relevant discipline that fits the DIMAS profile
  • A profound understanding of Area Studies with a strong interest in transregional, postcolonial, and/or difference-critical perspectives and their methods, as well as the ability to independently develop new qualitative and/or quantitative methods
  • Proficient oral and written communication in English and the willingness to acquire basic German skills
  • Teamwork and critical thinking skills, as well as the willingness to conduct, publish, and present collaborative and interdisciplinary research
  • Independence and organizational skills, as well as the ability to plan, implement, and complete projects in a goal-oriented manner
